Public transportation riders know that every year, Gold Coast Transit District goes full throttle into the holidays with the spectacularly decorated “Holiday Bus.” This year’s vehicle was unveiled on Dec. 4 at a special ribbon cutting ceremony held at GCTD’s administrative offices in Oxnard. In attendance were Ventura City Councilmember Mike Johnson, Oxnard City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem Bryan MacDonald and District 1 Ventura County Supervisor Matt LaVere.
This year’s bus is called “Holiday Travels, Gingerbread Smiles.” The decked-out ride has festive art on the sides and windows, depicting a cheerful group of gingerbread passengers as well as candy canes and lollipops. It was a highlight of the Oxnard Christmas Parade on Dec. 7. The Holiday Bus officially hit the streets on Dec. 8, offering free rides for all passengers through Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025. As in years past, the bus will rotate through different GCTD routes, giving riders throughout Ventura County a chance to partake in the merriment and enjoy a bus ride free of charge.
Passengers are encouraged to take selfies with the Holiday Bus and share them on social media for an opportunity to win a free 15-ride bus pass. Sightings of the bus can be tracked by tagging @GoldCoastTransit on Facebook and Instagram or by using the hashtag #GingerbreadontheGO.
