California State University Channel Islands’ Dolphin Classic Golf Tournament On June 19, Ventura County golfers and supporters of intercollegiate athletic programs at California State University Channel Islands gathered to tee off in a uniquely formatted golf tournament. Gross competition took place at the Saticoy Country Club, while an individual Calloway competition took place at Spanish Hills Country Club. Hole-in-one prizes for each course included two BMWs and $10,000 cash. Course winners then competed in the BMW Million Dollar Shootout. But the good times didn’t end on the golf course; there were also a lively reception, awards ceremony and live and silent auctions. All proceeds from the event will support the development of athletics program at the university For more information on CSUCI, visit www.csuci.edu.

Cops 4 Causes “A Salute to Heroes” The stars were out on the evening of July 15 as Cops 4 Causes, an organization of local police officers that raises funds for important causes, brought Deana Carter, Crosby Loggins and Thunder Road to Ventura to perform live on an outdoor stage at Ventura’s California Street Promenade. “A Salute to Heroes” included a VIP Celebrity Reception and dinner on the Promenade, served by officers and members of the Ventura Police Department, as well as live music, fire dancing, silent auction and a special torch lighting ceremony with Ventura Special Olympics athletes. Because of Cops 4 Causes, for the first time in the organizations history, Special Olympics Ventura County will have a reserve fund that will provide for the organization’s financial security and allow them to expand their services.
