OJAI-VENTURA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The Ojai-Ventura International Film Festival celebrates two milestones this year: its 10th anniversary and joining forces with the City of Ventura to bring its selection of world class feature, short, animated, and documentary films to an even broader audience. The Festival will include screenings in locations throughout Ojai and Ventura, including the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.

Jambo! New Life Band

November 10 | Cal Lutheran University

This concert will feature the extraordinary range of musical talent of the New Life Band. The nonprofit ministry from Tanzania will present traditional and contemporary gospel music, with African drum rhythms, close harmonies, and modern western style instruments with an African flare. Over the past 25 years, New Life Band has developed an active and vibrant ministry for teenagers in Tanzania and has been deeply committed to helping youths affected by poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, and a lack of direction in their lives. 7 p.m., Samuelson Chapel (Olsen Rd. and S. Campus Dr.).

The Historic Santa Paula Mill

November 13 | City of Santa Paula

The public is invited to attend a ceremony marking completion of the Mill Building renovation in Santa Paula. Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long and representatives from the Ventura County Transportation Commission will participate in the 120-year-old building’s turnover to its new tenant, the Museum of Ventura County. The museum will then begin work on converting the Mill into a farm museum, slated to open next year in the heart of one of the most productive agricultural areas in the country. 10 a.m. Near the corner of 10th Street and Railroad Avenue, Santa Paula.

Ventura Art Festival

November 14 | Mission Park, Downtown Ventura

The Ventura Art Festival will feature the work of fine artists from Ventura and throughout California – painters, sculptors, photographers, textile artists, and fine jewelry makers. All pieces are originals and will be available for sale. Local musicians will perform every hour, and area restaurants will provide gourmet appetizers. Wine, beer, and beverages will also be available. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mission Park in the Downtown Cultural District of Ventura.

Pops Concert with Bernadette Peters

November 21 | Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza

The Alliance for the Arts is bringing Bernadette Peters back with the New West Symphony in a special Pops Concert to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The festivities will include a pre-concert dinner featuring live entertainment from Cabrillo Music Theatre and the Pacific Festival Ballet during the preconcert cocktail and dinner hour. Cocktail hour, 5 p.m.; dinner, 6 p.m. in the Scherr Forum; concert, 8:15 p.m. Pops Concert ticket prices available $75, $85, and $125. VIP dinner package for $300 includes cocktails, awards presentation, dinner, and pops concert tickets.

November 21 - 22 | Homes in the Ojai Valley

Organized by the Ojai Festival Women’s Committee, this annual event benefits the Ojai Music Festival. The theme, “Around the World in Ojai,” will feature homes that represent different countries based on the homeowners’ décor – from the exotic lands of Bali to the European flair of Italy and romanticism of France. In addition, designers will accentuate the existing decor with floral arrangements and seasonal trimmings, giving visitors a glimpse of holiday cultures in other lands. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person. A map and directions to the homes will be mailed before the event.

Victorian Holiday Boutique

November 27-29, December 4-6 & 11-13 | Dudley House, Ventura

Now in its 16th year, the Victorian Holiday Boutique begins the day after Thanksgiving and continues for three consecutive weekends. Visitors can shop for collectibles and unique gifts made by talented crafters in a turn-of-the-century Victorian farmhouse. Proceeds benefit the historic house/museum. Admission is free. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Dudley House is located at the corner of Loma Vista and Ashwood in Ventura.

Christmas Tree Holiday Train

November 28 – December 20 | City of Fillmore

Passengers will ride the train to the Christmas tree farm where they can select and cut down a tree for the holidays. Santa will be onboard to visit with children of all ages. Guests can also visit Loose Caboose Garden Center and the Gift Emporium to shop for Christmas décor and gift items. Food and beverages, including beer and wine, will be available on the train. $24 adults, $22 seniors, $14 kids ages 4-12, $10 children ages 2-3. Tree prices not included. A Rubicon Family Christmas

December 2 - 27 | Rubicon Theatre Company, Ventura

Back by popular demand, this holiday show has already become a Ventura tradition. A cast of Broadway professionals whose credits include Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, 1776 and CATS come together with talented young artists from the Ventura County community to celebrate the season. Oxnard Christmas Tree Lighting

December 4 | Downtown Oxnard

The Oxnard Tree Lighting Celebration Holiday Festivity event will feature community performers, the premiere of the 2009 Winter Fantasy Music & Light Show, and the lighting of Ventura County's tallest Christmas tree. Santa Claus will be there, and complimentary refreshments will be served. 5:30 p.m. Plaza Park, Fifth & B streets, Oxnard.
