Giving Back

The Streetscape Mural Project:

Civic life met art with the unveiling of 12 murals on Friday, March 23, in ventura. Participating artists of various backgrounds -- some students, some professional, many somewhere in between -- all had one thing in common. They were local.

Students from Cabrillo Middle School proudly display their collaborative mural project, now displayed at the corner of Main and Ash streets.

Local painter Michael Zelcer shows off his "Fish Stixs," which can currently be seen on the corner of Telephone and Victoria avenues.

Artist Gerald Zwers receives a certificate from Tyson Cline, in recognition for his mural, "The Emerging Heart Series."

Ventura Mayor Carl Morehouse gives an openng address to artists and guests.

The Opening of Studio Channel Islands Art Center West:

On Saturday, April 14, local art enthusiasts welcomed a new treasure to Oxnard. The building is a satellite studio for the Studio Channel Islands Art Center. Some of Ventura County's best and brightest were on display, including Hilda Kilpatrick, Tom Kimbrell, Dan LaVigne, Gerri Johnson-McMillin, Margy Gates, Julia Pinkham and Tom McMillin.

There was a ribbon cutting with (left to right) Claudio Pardo, Michele Dupuet Leavitt, SCIART president Noble Powell, Pat Richards and Maggie Kildee.
